History and background
The Jaguar MK II 3.8 was introduced as the further development of Jaguar's midsize saloon line from the 1950s and became one of the brand's best-known models. The MK II built on the Mark 1, but received a redesigned body with more glass area, slimmer styles and better all-round visibility. In doing so, the Jaguar MK II 3.8 joined the British market for sporty luxury sedans, in which comfort and performance came together in a compact form.
The 3.8-liter version was among the better-known variants within the range and was especially prized in its day for its combination of substance and refinement. The Jaguar MK II 3.8 was also sold widely outside its home market and also gained a strong reputation in competition and among police forces, in part due to the model's technical basis and character. In historical context, the MK II is considered a car that strongly defined Jaguar's image in the 1960s.
This example was built in June 1960 and was originally delivered in the Netherlands. The version in Royal Maroon fits the period in which Jaguar gave much attention to distinct, classic body colors. The Jaguar MK II 3.8 has an extensive file with folders and history, which suits the collector's value that this type has acquired over the years.
Characteristics and features
The Jaguar MK II 3.8 is equipped with an automatic transmission and power steering. These features made the model more user-friendly in its day, without compromising the character of the six-cylinder sedan. With the Jaguar MK II 3.8, the emphasis was on a combination of agility and representativeness, with the technology packaged in a compact but rich body.
This example has recently undergone a partial engine overhaul. In addition, major maintenance was performed, including the upgrade of several parts by Jaguar specialist Nout Classics. The car has mileage of 23,010 km and is in very nice condition, both inside and out. The beige leather interior thereby provides a classic contrast to the Royal Maroon body color and is in keeping with the Jaguar MK II 3.8's luxury positioning within the model range.
Summary
This 1960 Jaguar MK II 3.8 combines original Dutch delivery, a documented history, an automatic transmission and power steering with a recent partial engine overhaul and major maintenance performed. The combination of Royal Maroon, beige leather and the familiar 3.8 trim makes this a representative example of the type. To get a good idea of the lot we recommend you come to the viewing day.
