Description

History and background

The BMW 1800 was part of the Neue Klasse, the model line with which BMW restored its position as a manufacturer of compact and sport-oriented sedans in the early 1960s. This series marked an important technical and commercial restart for the brand after a difficult period in the 1950s. Introduced in 1963 as a four-door sedan, the BMW 1800 was a further elaboration of the BMW 1500, with a larger displacement and wider use within the range.

The BMW 1800 was, in its time, a model with a clear market position between the conventional family car and the more performance-oriented mid-size car. It was characterized by sleek body lines, independent suspension and the modern technology that would later become hallmarks of BMW. The model was considered important in building the brand's sporty image, which was further strengthened in subsequent years with variants such as the 1800 TI and the 1800 TISA. The BMW 1800 was built in various versions and played a role in the international growth of BMW as a manufacturer of technically sophisticated passenger cars.

The BMW 1800 offered here is a Dutch car, newly delivered in Brabant in April 1971. This makes it a car from the later construction period of the Neue Klasse, in which the model had meanwhile acquired a permanent place within the BMW range. The mileage is 75,319 km and the car has had only two owners.

Characteristics and details

The 1971 BMW 1800 is gasoline-powered. The car is finished in beige, a color that supports the understated body design. The BMW 1800 is known for its sober and functional design, with an emphasis on proportions that looked modern at the time and later became the defining visual identity of BMW sedans.

On this example, the original interior stands out, which is in immaculate condition. In addition, the color scheme matches the classic character of the BMW 1800. The combination of a Dutch delivery, a limited number of owners and the aforementioned mileage makes this example recognizable within the category of preserved 1970s sedans. This is relevant for the BMW 1800, as it is precisely the utility cars from this period that have rarely been handed down with so much continuity.

Summary

This 1971 BMW 1800 is a Dutch Neue Klasse classic, delivered in Brabant and featuring a beige finish, mileage of 75,319 km and an original interior. The car has had two owners and belongs to the later examples of a model series that was of great significance for BMW. To get a good idea of the lot we advise you to come to the viewing day.
