Description

History and background

The Jaguar XJ-S was introduced in 1975 as the successor to the E-Type, although the model's emphasis was less on a pure sports car and more on a fast, comfortable grand tourer. In its early years, the car was best known as a coupe with the V12 engine, and later the convertible and various technical refinements followed. The XJ-S remained in production for a long time and developed into an important model within the Jaguar range, precisely because of its combination of long range, luxury and a distinctly British design.

In the course of production, the XJ-S was technically modernized. Starting in 1983, a six-in-line appeared alongside the V12, making the car more versatile and broadening its market position. By the end of production, which ran until 1996, the Jaguar XJ-S had matured into a more mature model with better workmanship and a significantly higher level of equipment than the early versions. As a result, the later XJS models are considered the most refined generation within this model series.

The 1994 Jaguar XJ-S 4.0 XJS Coupe Insignia belongs to that late phase. The combination of the 4.0-liter six-cylinder block and the Insignia trim places this car within the more luxuriously specified variants of the XJS. The Insignia trim was one of the top trims of the model and was delivered in limited numbers, making a car like this one special within the range.

Characteristics and Details

This Jaguar XJ-S 4.0 XJS Coupe Insignia is finished in Insignia Silver and has a build date of 1994. The car has driven 32,976 kilometers and is from June 1994. The 4.0-liter engine produces 166 kW, about 225 hp, and is mated to an automatic transmission. Within the XJS program, the 4.0-liter version marks a later technical phase in which the six-cylinder was an important alternative to the earlier 12-cylinder versions.

The Insignia version is known within the Jaguar XJ-S 4.0 XJS Coupe as a top luxury variant, with specific trim and equipment. This example has an interior in impeccable condition and an ex-factory condition recorded as perfect. The car comes from a collection and has always been perfectly maintained. The combination of the later 4.0-liter powertrain, the automatic transmission and the Insignia trim makes this Jaguar XJ-S 4.0 XJS Coupe Insignia a particularly specified specimen within the range.

The Jaguar XJ-S was known in its day for its emphasis on comfort and long-distance handling. The later coupes, such as this Jaguar XJ-S 4.0 XJS Coupe Insignia, echoed that approach with a high level of equipment and a more mature character than the earlier generation of the model. In doing so, the car took a position between grand touring and luxury coupe, with a clear focus on refinement.

Summary

This 1994 Jaguar XJ-S 4.0 XJS Coupe Insignia combines a late 4.0-liter version with the rare Insignia top trim, an Insignia Silver color scheme and mileage of 32,976 km. This is a June 1994 example with automatic transmission and a documented high level of finish within the XJS series. To get a good idea of the lot, we recommend coming to the viewing day.
