Description

History and background

The Citroën SM appeared in the early 1970s as a distinct Grand Touring model, developed at a time when Citroën combined technological innovation with a clear emphasis on comfort and aerodynamics. The model was positioned between luxury touring car and sporty long-distance coupe, with a strong character of its own within the European offerings of the time. The collaboration with Maserati provided the Citroën SM with a six-cylinder V-engine that gave the model its special place in automotive history.

Within the history of the Citroën SM, the cabriolet version, the Mylord, manufactured by Henri Chapron, occupies a separate position. This version was built only in very limited numbers at the time, making it an exclusive derivative of an already special model. The Citroën SM Cabriolet offered here is a carefully reconstructed homage to that rare Chapron version, executed in 06/1972.

The Citroën SM was considered a technically and stylistically different model in its time, partly due to the combination of French design tradition, Italian engine construction and a chassis concept characteristic of Citroën. The car was part of a period in which the marque emphatically distinguished itself with cutting-edge technology, including suspension systems and control solutions that differed from the conventional approach used by its contemporaries.

Characteristics and special features

This Citroën SM Cabriolet is equipped with the 2.7-liter Maserati V6 rated at 125 kW (170 hp) and a five-speed manual transmission. The car is finished in green and has a luxurious leather interior. Also present are air conditioning and hydropneumatic suspension. The mileage is 27,874 km.

The model is technically known for its hydropneumatic suspension and DIRAVI steering, which, together with the body design, give the Citroën SM a distinct character of its own. The combination of this technology with the Maserati engine made the SM a standout within the luxury travel car segment at the time. The convertible version further underscores that position, as the original Chapron-Mylord was only manufactured in small numbers.

The Citroën SM Cabriolet offered here has been described as a Mylord Homage and is in absolute mint condition, both inside and out. The deep green exterior and leather interior are in keeping with the car's exclusive character and historical reference to the open Chapron version.

Summary

The Citroën SM Cabriolet combines the technology and concept of the SM with the rare form of a Chapron-inspired convertible. This is an 06/1972 executed Mylord Homage with 2.7-liter Maserati V6, five-speed manual transmission, air conditioning and hydropneumatic suspension.
