Description

History and background

The Porsche 911 3.6 Coupe 4S belongs to the 993 generation, Porsche's last air-cooled 911 series. The 993 appeared in the early 1990s as the successor to the 964 and marked an important technical step in the development of the 911. The bodywork was redesigned, including wider fenders and an integrated rear spoiler, while chassis and powertrain were further refined. Thus, the Porsche 911 3.6 Coupe 4S combined the classic 911 concept with the modernization that characterized the 993 generation.

The 4S version occupied a special position within the range. This version came later in the life cycle of the 993 and was technically and optically close to the Turbo, but without the turbo engine. For the Porsche 911 3.6 Coupe 4S, this included the wide body and all-wheel drive, features that gave the car its own place within the 911 series. Production of the 993 generation ran until 1998, followed by the water-cooled 996. Within the air-cooled 911 family, the 993 is therefore often seen as the final phase of an important technical era.

A total of 6948 units of the Porsche 911 3.6 Coupe 4S were built. The 1996 model year fits into the first production years of this version. The car has had five owners. The fourth owner bought the car from Porsche Eindhoven in February 2015 with a mileage of 74,901 and drove it no more than 1,400 kilometers in six years. The fifth owner bought the car in June 2021 through Porsche Eindhoven, with purchase inspection and a mileage of 76,288. In the past five years, 1,300 kilometers have been added. The car has been regularly maintained during this period.

Characteristics and features

The Porsche 911 3.6 Coupe 4S is distinguished by the combination of the wide body of the Turbo line and the atmospheric six-cylinder boxer engine of the Carrera. This made the 4S a version that visually matched the more powerful Turbo models, while the technology was fundamentally sourced from the regular 911 series. Within the 993 generation, this was one of the versions with the most pronounced handling and presentation.

In the case of the Porsche 911 3.6 Coupe 4S, documentation is also important. The mention of a Geburtskunde and the recorded ownership history give the car a clear provenance within model history. The combination of a limited number of examples produced, a late and sought-after 993 variant, and a demonstrable string of owners makes this Porsche 911 3.6 Coupe 4S a specific appearance within the 911 lineup.

Summary

The 1996 Porsche 911 3.6 Coupe 4S is a 993-generation 911 with all-wheel drive, wide body and a production run of 6948 examples. The car has a documented ownership history, a Geburtskunde and limited use in recent years. To get a good idea of the lot, we recommend coming to the viewing day.
