Description

History and background

The Westfield GTM Sports Spyder was born out of a collaboration between GTM Cars and Westfield Sports Cars, two British manufacturers who both held distinct positions within the kit car world. GTM Cars was known for lightweight construction and performance-oriented designs, while Westfield Sports Cars had made a name for itself with kit cars that emphasized comfortable handling in addition to performance. Out of this collaboration came the Westfield GTM Sports Spyder, production of which began in the late 1990s. The model was developed as a two-seat sports car with a soft-top, thus adhering to the British tradition of compact, lightly built open sports cars.

Within that context, the Westfield GTM Sports Spyder took its own place. It combined the approach of a distinctly lightweight sports car with a finish and handling that set it apart from more rudimentary kit cars. Production was limited to 30 units, making the Westfield GTM Sports Spyder a rare model within this category. It is precisely these limited numbers that contribute to the model's recognizability and the interest it has garnered among enthusiasts and connoisseurs.

The 2007 Westfield GTM Sports Spyder falls into the later phase of model development and belongs to a period when kitcars had become more technically sophisticated. In the marketplace, the car positioned itself between compact, minimalist sports cars and more finished open two-seaters. This makes the Westfield GTM Sports Spyder a model with its own distinct identity within the range of British specials.

Characteristics and features

The Westfield GTM Sports Spyder is built around an aluminum and tubular steel chassis. That construction provides a combination of rigidity and low weight and is a key technical feature of the model. The low overall weight of 770 kg directly affects the balance of the car and supports the agility for which the GTM Spyder was designed. The engine has been carefully positioned to ensure ideal weight distribution.

The car is equipped with a 1.8-liter VVC engine with 160 hp. Combined with the low weight, this results in a power-to-weight ratio that suits the sporty nature of the Westfield GTM Sports Spyder. Acceleration to 100 mph is about 6 seconds and the top speed is 220 mph. Connoisseurs do place the model in the realm of a cross between a Lotus Super Seven and a Lotus Elise, indicating the combination of compact dimensions, lightweight engineering and sporting deployability.

The execution of the Westfield GTM Sports Spyder matches that character. The car has two Recaro bucket seats and an interior finished with leather and alcantara. Also included are 17-inch ANZIO alloy wheels and metal sport pedals. The extra luggage space also makes the Westfield GTM Sports Spyder suitable for use on longer trips.

Summary

The Westfield GTM Sports Spyder is a rare British two-seat sports car with a lightweight chassis, a 1.8-liter VVC engine and a production run of 30 units. The model combines a distinctly sporty design with a compact soft-top configuration and distinctive finish. To get a good idea of the lot, we recommend coming to the viewing day.
