Description

History and background

The Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce belongs to the 105/115 series Spider, a roadster that was in production from 1966 to 1993. The model was based on the Giulia and was designed by Pininfarina, giving Alfa Romeo an open two-seater in the program that focused on a combination of sporty engineering and Italian body design. Within the Spider series, the 2000 Spider Veloce marked a later phase of development, in which the original 1600 and 1750 versions were succeeded by a version with larger displacement.

The first generation Spider appeared in 1966 as the Alfa Romeo Spider 1600. With the introduction of the 1750 line in 1968, the 1750 Spider Veloce followed. In late 1969, the Series 2 entered the market, recognizable by its more conventional flattened rear end, the so-called Coda Tronca. That change was part of a broader development that included functionality and lines, including an improved trunk space. In 1971 the displacement was increased to 1962 cc and the model name was changed to 2000 Spider Veloce. Over 38,000 of this type were built, making it one of the better-known versions in the Spider family.

The 1981 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce falls within the later production period of the Series 2, which ran until 1982/83. In that part of the series, the model remained closely associated with the original Spider line, but with the further development that had begun in the 1970s. The car was newly delivered in the Netherlands in July 1981 and belongs to the 2000 versions with chrome bumpers, a version common within this generation.

Characteristics and features

The Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce stands out within the Spider series due to the combination of the 1962 cc engine and the specific design of the Series 2. The Coda Tronca rear end gives the model a different proportion to the early Spider versions and is a recognizable feature of this generation. The Veloce designation is historically associated with the sportier configured versions within the Spider line.

Numerous notes and appraisal reports are present with this example. With these, the car is documented within a trajectory befitting an enthusiast's car, a type of vehicle for which the Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce has been firmly established in the market for some time. The combination of a Dutch first delivery, the year of manufacture 1981 and the version with chrome bumpers makes this car well placed within the final phase of the Series 2.

Summary

The Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce is an open two-seater from the 105/115 series, with origins in Giulia engineering, a design by Pininfarina and a development that culminated in the 1962 cc version of 1971. This example is of 1981 build, delivered new to the Netherlands in July of that year and fitted with chrome bumpers. Many notes and valuation reports are present with the car.
