Description

History and background

The Mercedes-Benz 300S Coupe was introduced in the early 1950s as the sporty and more exclusive alternative within Mercedes-Benz's so-called Adenauer generation. The model stood above the regular 300 series and was intended for an audience that was interested in a refined two-seater with closed bodywork in addition to representation. The Mercedes-Benz 300S Coupe combined the technical basis of the 300 with a hand-built body, which was in keeping with the production and finishing style of the top models of the period.

The 1953 Mercedes-Benz 300S Coupe belongs to the first production years of this model. Production remained very limited; only 216 examples of the 300S Coupe were built. Thus, the car occupies a modest but clearly defined place within postwar Mercedes-Benz history. Within the model series, the 300S was considered a car for the upper end of the market, with an emphasis on comfort, quality and craftsmanship. The coupe version was distinguished by its closed body and more streamlined lines compared to the open variants that came under the 300S banner during the same period.

This made the Mercedes-Benz 300S Coupe not only a model with limited numbers of production, but also a representative of a phase when Mercedes-Benz was rebuilding its international reputation. In those years, luxury, technology and status were closely linked. In that context, the 300S Coupe was positioned as a car with a distinctly exclusive character, without distancing itself from the brand's more functional and technically sound image.

Characteristics and particulars

This Mercedes-Benz 300S Coupe is in clean, drivable condition. Both the paint and chrome work, as well as the interior, look very good. The car was restored some time ago. A folder with various bills is present. These details suit a model that is already special by nature due to its limited production and high-quality workmanship, with a documentation folder often providing an additional historical picture of earlier work.

Technically, the Mercedes-Benz 300S Coupe belongs to the line of large Mercedes models from the first half of the 1950s, in which great attention was paid to solidity, comfort and a traditional character. As a body variant, the coupe was emphatically placed in the luxury category and thus differed from the more commonly used sedans of the same period. The combination of an enclosed, hand-built body and limited production makes the Mercedes-Benz 300S Coupe a model with a distinct position within the collection market.

Summary

The 1953 Mercedes-Benz 300S Coupe is a rare example from a production run of only 216 units, executed as a hand-built luxury coupe from the early 1950s. Restored some time ago, the car is in clean, driveable condition and has good looking paint, chrome and interior work. To get a good idea of the lot we advise you to come to the viewing day.
