This 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom II represents the pinnacle of luxury and craftsmanship from the roaring twenties. At the time, the Phantom II was the worthy successor to the legendary Silver Ghost and New Phantom. Only 1,767 of these chassis were built, after which each one was fitted with unique bodywork by leading coachbuilders. This particular example, with chassis number 70WJ, has a fascinating and fully documented history.
Kingdom History
This Phantom II began its life as a show model at Rolls-Royce in 1929, after which it was delivered in 1930 to the young Prince Pratapsinha Gaekwar of Baroda in India. This prince used the car for tiger hunting, as documented in several photos from that period. In the following decades, the car changed hands, ending up in the hands of prominent figures such as Keith Williams and later Thomas Watson Jr., former CEO of IBM.
Elegant Boat-Tail Conversion
In 1967, the Phantom II was given an elegant boat-tail body, built by the renowned Spanish coachbuilder Josep Vert. This conversion gave the car an even more impressive look and made it a true work of art. The car has had several owners since then and was fully restored in 2010, including an engine overhaul by a specialist.
Ready for the Future
With its restored engine, refurbished parts such as the pistons, clutch and cylinder head, and its beautiful paint in New Ivory and Mandeville Blue, this Phantom II is ready to be admired and driven. The car has a comprehensive set of factory documents from 1929 and is now completely ready to go.
