Description

The NSU RO80 is a sedan produced by the German car manufacturer NSU Motorenwerke AG from 1967 to 1977. It was a revolutionary car known for its advanced technology and unique design. One of the most striking features of the NSU RO80 was its Wankel engine, a type of engine that was rarely used in cars at the time. The Wankel engine was developed by Felix Wankel and was characterized by its compact size and high power to torque ratio. The NSU RO80 had a two-disc Wankel engine with a capacity of 995 cc, which produced 113 hp. This allowed for a top speed of about 180 km/h and fast acceleration. The design of the NSU RO80 was also striking. The car had a streamlined shape with a long, low hood and a sloping back. The interior was roomy and comfortable. The NSU RO80 was praised for its advanced technology and driving comfort. The car won several awards, including European Car of the Year in 1968. However, the car also had problems with the reliability of the Wankel engine, which led to high repair costs. In 1977 NSU ceased production of the RO80 and the company was taken over by Audi, who later used the Wankel engine in the Audi 100. Today it is an iconic and recognizable appearance. The cars on offer are part of a static collection that has been accumulated over the last 40 years. They are mainly in an unrestored, original but dusty condition. We have not tried to start any of the cars. We have been informed that the engines have been turned, on a regular basis, but the exact condition of the cars and the engines is unknown to us. You can inspect the cars on the viewing days for which you have to make a reservation through our ticketshop.
