Description

History and background

The Jeep CJ7 appeared in 1976 as a further development of the CJ line, dating back to World War II military Jeep models. Compared to earlier CJ versions, the CJ7 was longer and offered more space for occupants and technology, while retaining the recognizable angular Jeep character. In doing so, the Jeep CJ7 positioned itself as a civilian off-road vehicle with a clear relationship to the brand's functional origins.

The Jeep CJ7 remained in production until 1986, during which time it firmly established itself within the compact off-road vehicle segment. The model was available with a variety of engine and transmission combinations and was used for recreational off-roading, daily transportation and utility applications. With its combination of short overhangs, a ladder chassis and removable body elements, the Jeep CJ7 adhered to the traditional CJ series concept of utility value and simple body design.

The 1979 model year falls at a time when the Jeep CJ7 had already established itself as one of the best-known versions within the CJ series. In the late 1970s, the model was widely used in markets where compact all-wheel drive and an open body were valued. Within Jeep's history, the CJ7 represents an important link between the early, more rudimentary CJ models and the later generation off-road vehicles with more emphasis on comfort and daily use.

Characteristics and features

This 1979 Jeep CJ7 features a new soft top and soft doors. In addition, original parts are present. Such parts fit within the original design of the model, which naturally came with a simple and functional character, where loose or replaceable body elements were part of the concept.

The Jeep CJ7 is technically distinguished by its compact body and the brand's typical off-road architecture. The combination of open construction, short wheelbase and robust fundamentals made the model recognizable as a classic Jeep from the CJ family. For the Jeep CJ7, this meant that during its period, the model held a firm place between traditional job sites and recreational use, with a build that was closely aligned with the historic Jeep philosophy.

Summary

The 1979 Jeep CJ7 is among Jeep's well-known civilian off-road vehicles and represents the classic CJ build of the late 1970s. The presence of a new soft top, soft doors and original parts is in keeping with the character of this model. To get a good idea of the lot, we recommend coming to the viewing day.
