Description

History and background

The Mercedes-Benz CL 63 AMG belongs to the fourth generation of the CL-Class, known internally as the C216. Positioned as the luxury coupe variant of the S-Class in the second half of the 2000s, this model combined a long wheelbase, extensive comfort features and a distinct AMG character. The CL-Class occupied a place within the Mercedes lineup between traditional luxury and gran turismo features, with an emphasis on travel comfort and high highway stability.

The CL 63 AMG appeared at a time when Mercedes-AMG was raising its profile more emphatically with models focused not only on straight-line performance, but also on refinement and practicality. Within the CL series, the AMG version was considered one of the most outspoken variants, with bodywork based on the S-Class coupe and an engine lineup that matched the top of the range. Production of the C216 ran from 2006 to 2014, with the CL 63 AMG being an important part of Mercedes-AMG's positioning in the large luxury coupe segment.

With the CL 63 AMG, international sales also played an important role. Mercedes delivered this type to several markets, where execution and tuning could differ by region. The car originated in South Korea, where people also drive on the right. As a result, the headlight direction and rear fog light are properly adjusted for the European side. This is a technical detail that can be important when importing vehicles from other markets within the context of the original configuration.

Characteristics and special features

The Mercedes-Benz CL 63 AMG is technically recognizable as a large, two-piece coupe with a strong emphasis on comfort and stability. Within the CL series, the AMG variant distinguished itself with a sportier-tuned powertrain and a more performance-oriented finish than the regular versions. In Mercedes-AMG's model history, the CL 63 was seen as a car that combined the character of a luxury touring car with the brand's technical signature.

Further characteristic of the CL 63 AMG is its combination of size, luxury and a relatively exclusive market position. Compared to many of its contemporaries, this was not a compact sports coupe, but a full-fledged grand tourer with its own distinct place within the Mercedes range. The 2007 version falls within the period in which Mercedes was still strongly committed to classic, large-scale coupe shapes with a long hood and an emphatically representative profile.

The lighting arrangement appropriate for South Korea means that the Mercedes-Benz CL 63 AMG is in this sense already prepared for use on the European road. That concerns the headlight direction and the rear fog light, which are thus geared to traffic on the right side of the road. This is a special detail within the vehicle history and market-specific execution of the model.

Summary

The 2007 Mercedes-Benz CL 63 AMG is a luxury coupe from the C216 generation with clear AMG positioning within the CL series. Originating from South Korea, the vehicle has headlight direction and rear fog light that are properly tuned for the European side.
