Description

History and background

The Mini Clubman Estate was part of the broader Mini family developed in the 1960s and 1970s as a practical extension of Alec Issigonis' original Mini concept. Whereas the standard Mini was best known for its compact base and transverse engine, the Clubman series offered a modernized nose shape and a more contemporary positioning within the range. The Estate version added a longer rear end, making the car explicitly aimed at users who wanted to combine the Mini principle with extra cargo space.

The Mini Clubman Estate remained in production until the early 1980s, becoming part of a model series that was firmly established in several markets due to its compact dimensions and recognizable technology. By 1980, this type was among the last generations of classic Mini variants. The Clubman Estate was distinguished from the standard hatchback by its estate body and its specific front treatment, giving it its own place within the British Leyland range. The model was delivered new in the Netherlands, which was not obvious for this type and makes its Dutch registration history historically relevant.

Within Mini-history, the Estate is considered one of the more practical versions. The combination of the familiar chassis, transverse engine and estate body made the model useful for daily transportation within the compact class of the period. The Mini Clubman Estate is thus an appearance of the Mini in which functionality and recognizability come together, without abandoning the basic principles of the original model.

Characteristics and Details

This Mini Clubman Estate is from the second owner since December 27, 2002. The car is in drivable condition. Both the interior and exterior look good. Since 2006 the Mini has been suspended, after which the body was restored. In 2010, the car was painted in the color Denim Blue. Since that restoration, the Mini has always been inside.

The car comes with a folder with a lot of documentation, including maintenance bills and photos of restoration work. Such documentation is important with a Mini Clubman Estate of this year of construction, as it provides insight into the history of maintenance and work on the vehicle. The combination of a Dutch first delivery, a long preserved file and the bodywork restoration carried out gives this Mini Clubman Estate a clearly documented history within its lifetime.

Summary

The 1980 Mini Clubman Estate is a Dutch car with a long documented history, including restoration work, maintenance invoices and photo material. The car is drivable, has a good looking interior and exterior, and was painted in Denim Blue in 2010. To get a good idea of the lot, we recommend coming to the viewing day.
