History and background
The Triumph Herald 13/60 Convertible belongs to the final development phase of the Herald series, which was introduced in the late 1950s as a compact family car with a separate chassis and body composed of separate panels. Triumph positioned the model as an accessible car with relatively simple engineering, while at the same time the construction allowed for variants as a sedan, coupe, estate and convertible. The Herald came in several versions and became a recognizable model within the British offerings of the period.
The 13/60 version appeared as a further development of earlier Herald versions and, among other things, received a modified engine variant within the familiar four-cylinder line. This kept the Triumph Herald 13/60 Convertible in line with the market for affordable open cars, a segment that featured practicality and low-maintenance engineering. The convertible version has always had its own place within the Herald family, partly due to its relatively compact dimensions and distinctive lines by Michelotti, who was responsible for designing the Herald bodywork.
The 1968 model year falls in the later production years of the Triumph Herald, a period in which the model was still used as an entry-level model within Triumph's passenger car program. Produced in large numbers, the Herald family had a distinct role in the brand's international exports. In that respect, the Triumph Herald 13/60 Convertible represents the final phase of a model series that was important to Triumph as a carrier of recognizable British engineering and compact open body variants.
Characteristics and features
This Triumph Herald 13/60 Convertible is an original factory convertible and has undergone a body-off restoration using only original parts. The car has been painted in Old English White, a color that fits well with the classic character of the Herald Convertible. During the restoration process, the engine was completely rebuilt and, among other things, the engine bearings were renewed. In addition, a brake booster was installed, intended to support the braking system in use in today's traffic.
Beautiful about this Triumph Herald 13/60 Convertible is also the way some details have been worked out. A new hood cover has been made with invisible magnetic strips, so that no pushers are visible on the rear screen. There is also an interior cover that covers the whole thing without having to put on the hood. The car is in clean condition, runs and drives, and is road tax free and exempt from MOT requirements.
Summary
The Triumph Herald 13/60 Convertible combines the late version of the Herald series with an original convertible bodywork, a body-off restoration with original parts and some neat technical and practical modifications. The car is finished in Old English White, has an overhauled engine with refurbished engine bearings and is fitted with a brake booster.
