History and background
The Porsche 911 SC 3.0 Cabriolet belongs to an important phase in the development of the 911 series. Introduced as a successor within the G-Series, the SC represented further refinement of the model after the turbulent 1970s and came with the 3.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine. Within 911 history, the Cabriolet represents a later addition, as Porsche was still primarily known for the Targa and Coupe at this time; the open variant represented a broadening of the range in a segment where the 911 was further expanding its position as a sports car with everyday character.
This 1983 Porsche 911 SC 3.0 Cabriolet is a first-year cabriolet and thus an early representative of this model type. This example is original Dutch and delivered by PON. In 1982, the car was exhibited by Pon at the RAI in Amsterdam, giving it a place in the Dutch introduction history of the 3.0 SC Cabriolet. The car was delivered to its first owner on February 18, 1983, and has enjoyed a long line of succession within the same family, with the vehicle passing from father to son and later being repurchased by the grandson.
Within the market position of the Porsche 911 SC, the convertible version occupies a special place. Production of open 911 variants from this early period was more limited than that of the later generations, giving early examples in a nationally known provenance additional recognition. The 1983 Porsche 911 SC 3.0 Cabriolet joins that early phase of the open 911, combining the SC's familiar technology with the then relatively new convertible body.
Characteristics and particulars
This Porsche 911 SC 3.0 Cabriolet was fitted with a new odometer by Porsche Centrum Rotterdam in 2018 at a odometer reading of 117054 kilometers. The current odometer reading on the new gauge is 1500 kilometers. The car includes invoice and photos of the old meter. In 2018 the car was repainted for cosmetic reasons. The car has had no damage.
In 2023, new Michelin tires and brake discs were installed. In addition, the car was fully checked, MOT inspected and given a comprehensive service by Porsche specialist Van der Gugten in Bodegraven at mileage 1738. This means that the Porsche 911 SC 3.0 Cabriolet has been technically and administratively documented several times over the years, with attention to both its use and maintenance history.
Summary
The 1983 Porsche 911 SC 3.0 Cabriolet is an early, original Dutch convertible with a special Dutch history, delivered via PON and remained in the same family from new. The car has documentation around the counter replacement and has received maintenance, tires and brake discs in recent years. To get a good picture of the lot we advise you to come to the viewing day.
