Description

History and background

The Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 appeared in the late 1960s as the top four-seat model within Ferrari's luxury gran turismo lineup. It was developed as a comfortable travel car with a more pronounced utility value than the two-seat sports models with which Ferrari was usually associated. Within the 365 series, the Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 thus occupied a special position in that it combined performance and space in a body with a longer roof and a full-size rear seat.

The model grew into one of the most important luxury Ferraris of its time. Production continued until the early 1970s and the car was delivered to an international audience that valued comfort, finish and the character of a Ferrari with more practicality. Due to its relatively spacious design, the Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 was often placed in the segment of exclusive grand tourers, in which other European brands also operated. In total, Ferrari built over 800 examples of this type, which was a respectable production figure for a Ferrari of this period.

In 1970, the Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 was in the final phase of its production period. During those very years, the model gained a reputation as a comfortable highway driver, partly due to the combination of a long wheelbase and a thoughtful interior layout. In that context, the car was also referred to as the "Queen Mary," a nickname that referred to its size and presence.

Characteristics and special features

The Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 was distinguished by a number of technical and practical features that were not obvious in this segment and within Ferrari. For the first time, Ferrari fitted an automatically regulating rear suspension from Koni. This underlined the car's character as a long-distance gran turismo, where comfort and roadholding had to be balanced. Standard equipment was also extensive for its time, with air conditioning, electric side windows and a radio with 8-track cassette.

The four-passenger layout made the Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 usable for four adults, which was an important distinguishing point for a Ferrari of this period. At the same time, the model remained clearly within the brand's tradition, with bodywork and presentation that matched the luxury grand tourers of the early 1970s. The combination of space, equipment and Ferrari technology gave the 365 GT 2+2 its own place within the model series.

The example offered here comes in silver gray with a new black leather interior. It is further stated that the car has driven 73,800 kilometers and is on new Avon tires. Also described as good are the fitments and the underlying bodywork.

Summary

The Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 is a four-seat grand tourer from the 365 series with a clear focus on comfort and long-distance use, equipped with special technology such as Koni's auto-adjusting rear suspension and extensive standard equipment. This 1970 example is finished in silver gray with black leather and is offered with listed mileage and new tires. To get a good impression of the lot we advise you to come to the viewing day.
