Description

History and background

The Bentley Arnage was introduced in 1998 as the successor to the Bentley Turbo R and marked an important phase in Bentley's modern history. The model came at a time when the brand was still under the influence of its joint period with Rolls-Royce, after which later development under Volkswagen Group continued to take shape. The Bentley Arnage was positioned as a large four-door limousine with a classic British look, combined with a modern interpretation of comfort and technology.

Within the model line, the Bentley Arnage occupied a special place in that the model was initially available with a 4.4-liter V8 of BMW origin, while Bentley continued to develop its own 6.75-liter V8 in addition. That choice reflected the transitional period in which the model was created. In its early years, the Bentley Arnage was thus a technically and historically intermediate model, which retained the traditional Bentley identity but also aligned with the changing ownership relationships within the group. Different trims and designations were introduced during the course of production, including variants that focused on more comfort or, conversely, more dynamic characteristics.

The 2006 model year falls in the later production phase of the Bentley Arnage. By that time, the model had already well established its place within the range as a large, hand-built limousine in the premium segment. The Bentley Arnage was produced in limited numbers compared to mainstream luxury limousines, which suited the exclusive nature of the model and the limited market in which it moved. The series ended in 2009, after which Bentley continued the line with a newly developed model within the same segment.

Characteristics and features

The Bentley Arnage is distinguished by its traditional proportions, long hood and distinct body construction that still clearly refers to older Bentley generations. Technically, the Bentley Arnage long remained tied to the brand's familiar V8 configuration, with an emphasis on smooth power delivery and high torque, characteristics that had been a key Bentley hallmark for decades. Later versions of the Arnage received various drivetrain and chassis advancements, with the model bridging the gap within the brand between classic construction and more modern engineering.

The 2006 Bentley Arnage belongs to the last generation of the series. At that stage, the model had been further technically refined compared to the earlier introductory versions and had a clear position within the top end of the luxury four-door car market. In doing so, the Bentley Arnage was valued not only as a representative limousine, but also as a model that connected the long Bentley tradition with modern times. Characteristically, the Arnage was also one of the last Bentley models in which the marque's historic V8 line still played a central role.

Summary

The 2006 Bentley Arnage is a late version of a model series that reflects an important transitional period in Bentley's history. The model combines classic Bentley elements with the technical development of the late 1990s and early 2000s. To get a good idea of the lot, we recommend coming to the viewing day.
