Description

The Citroën Ami 8 1980 is among the last production years of the Ami series produced in France between 1961 and 1978, with additional assembly in Spain and Belgium, among other countries. The Ami 8 succeeded the Ami 6 in 1969 and was positioned between the 2CV and Citroën's more luxurious models. The model was characterized by its functional design and practicality, responding to the demand for affordable and efficient transportation in the compact segment.

The Citroën Ami 8 1980 was based on the same technical concept as the 2CV, with an air-cooled twin-cylinder boxer engine and front-wheel drive. The independent suspension with long suspension travel was typical of Citroën in this period and was known for its comfort-oriented tuning. The Ami 8 was distinguished from the 2CV by a more spacious bodywork and a more conventional body shape, which contributed to its broader use as a family car.

During its production years, the Ami 8 was delivered as a sedan and a break. The model was offered in several European markets and had a total production of over 1.8 million units, making it a substantial share of Citroën's sales in the lower middle segment. Production in France ended in 1978, after which successors such as the Visa took over the model program.

The Citroën Ami 8 1980 thus represents one of the last versions within this model series. Its design and engineering are in keeping with Citroën's approach to light, efficiently constructed vehicles of the 1970s and early 1980s, which focused on simplicity and functionality.
