Description

The 1979 Opel Rekord Caravan belongs to the fifth generation of the Opel Rekord, internally referred to as the Rekord E, introduced in 1977. This model succeeded the Rekord D and was characterized by a more angular and contemporary design, fitting within Opel's design language at the end of the 1970s. The Caravan version was the station wagon variant within the range and played an important role in Opel's model range, in part due to its practical body shape.

The Opel Rekord series was first introduced in 1953 and grew to become one of the brand's most important mid-range models. With the Rekord E, Opel committed to further modernization, including in the areas of body construction and safety. The Caravan variant was distinguished by a spacious cargo area and a functional layout, with which the model appealed to both private and business drivers. In 1982, the Rekord E was succeeded by the Opel Omega, beginning a new chapter for the brand in this segment.

The 1979 Opel Rekord Caravan was produced at a time when Opel had a strong international presence within the mid-range segment. The model was delivered in several European markets and was known for its wide applicability. Within the total production of the Rekord E, the Caravan took a substantial share, underlining the importance of this body variant within the model line.

Within Opel's development, the 1979 Opel Rekord Caravan marks a phase in which traditional rear-wheel drive and conventional technology were still central, prior to the later shift to new platforms and drive concepts in the 1980s. The model thus fits into a long tradition of Opel station wagons that dates back to earlier Rekord generations and that the brand has continued over several decades.

The 1979 Opel Rekord Caravan is offered as a classic model from the late 1970s and represents the station wagon version of the Rekord E-series from the 1979 model year. To get a good impression of the lot we recommend you come to the viewing day.
