Description

The Volkswagen 411 LE Variant was introduced in the late 1960s as part of Volkswagen's new Type 4 series. This model marked an important step for the brand in the upper mid-range segment, above the Beetle and the Type 3. The Volkswagen 411 LE Variant combined the distinctive air-cooled concept with a more spacious and modern body design, aimed at increased comfort and convenience for families and business drivers. Within the model range, the Variant version occupied a practical position thanks to its spacious station wagon configuration.

The Type 4 series, of which the Volkswagen 411 LE Variant is a part, was developed with a view to further international growth of the brand. The model was distinguished by its larger dimensions and independent suspension all around, which at the time contributed to improved handling compared to earlier Volkswagen models. Within the series, the LE version stood for a more elaborate trim compared to the base versions, which Volkswagen was responding to a growing demand for more comfort in this segment.

Production-wise, the Volkswagen 411 LE Variant represented a transitional model in the evolution of the brand. The Type 4 series later formed the technical basis for other models within the Volkswagen Group and played a role in the further development of rear-mounted, air-cooled engine concepts. Although its production period was relatively limited compared to iconic volume models of the brand, the 411 series occupies a recognizable place within Volkswagen's model history.

The Volkswagen 411 LE Variant came as a spacious five-door station wagon, focusing on functionality and family-oriented use. The model is characterized by its austere, functional design typical of Volkswagen of this period, with an emphasis on clarity and practicality. Within the classic Volkswagen line, the 411 LE Variant represents a less frequently seen model, which contributes to its distinctive position within the offerings from those years.
