Description

The 1982 BMW 316 E21 is part of the first generation 3 Series, referred to internally as E21, which was produced from 1975 to 1983. With the introduction of the E21, BMW took an important step into the segment of compact, sportily positioned mid-size cars. Within this series, the 1982 BMW 316 E21 represents the entry-level variant as delivered in its final years of production. The model is characterized by its classic two-door body and BMW's typical emphasis on balanced weight distribution and rear-wheel drive.

The BMW 316 E21 1982 was built at a time when BMW was further refining and internationalizing its model range. The E21 succeeded the BMW 02 Series and laid the foundation for the long-standing 3 Series line, which grew into one of the brand's core models. A total of more than 1.3 million units of the E21 Series were produced worldwide, making the model commercially successful and securing a permanent place within the BMW lineup.

Characteristic of the 1982 BMW 316 E21 is the design with the driver-facing center console, an element that was innovative within this segment at the time and later became a recognizable BMW hallmark. The exterior design with its double round headlights and characteristic kidney-shaped grille is in keeping with BMW's design language of the period. The positioning of the 316 within the E21 series made the model accessible within the range, without compromising the technical basis that characterized the series.

This BMW 316 E21 1982 concerns a specimen from the last production year of the E21 generation, prior to the introduction of the E30 in 1982. This puts this model at the end of the first generation 3 Series, which laid the foundations for the further development of this model program. To get a good idea of the lot, we recommend coming to the viewing day.
