Description

The 2002 Land Rover Freelander belongs to the first generation of the Freelander, known internally as the L314, which was produced from 1997 to 2006. With this model, Land Rover entered the compact SUV segment, a market that was rapidly developing in the late 1990s. The Freelander was developed as a more accessible alternative within the Land Rover program and was built in the United Kingdom. The model grew into a best-selling SUV within its class in several European markets.

The 2002 Land Rover Freelander was based on a self-supporting body instead of the traditional ladder chassis common to earlier Land Rover models. This concept marked a distinct technical change of direction within the brand. The first generation Freelander came standard with independent suspension all around. Depending on the version, permanent all-wheel drive with a viscous coupling for automatic power transmission between front and rear axles was used.

In the model range, the 2002 Land Rover Freelander took a position as a versatile SUV for both urban use and deployment on dirt roads. The design featured typical Land Rover styling elements of the period, combined with a relatively compact body compared to the larger Discovery and Range Rover. The Freelander came in several body styles during its production period, including a five-door version and a three-door variant.

The 2002 Land Rover Freelander thus represents an important stage in Land Rover's development as a manufacturer of SUVs in various segments. This particular build year falls within the model's early production years and is part of a series that has been produced in significant numbers worldwide. To get a good idea of the lot, we recommend coming to the viewing day.
