Description

The 1997 Mercedes-Benz CLK 320 Elegance belongs to the first generation CLK-Class, referred to internally as the C208 series. This model was introduced in 1997 as a two-door coupe and positioned itself between the C-Class and E-Class. The 1997 Mercedes-Benz CLK 320 Elegance combined the platform of the C-Class with design elements that were characteristic of the brand's larger models at the time, including the distinctive headlight shape and pillarless side-window design.

Within the range, the CLK 320 occupied a prominent place with its six-cylinder configuration, distinguishing the model from the four-cylinder variants in the same series. The designation "Elegance" was used by Mercedes-Benz for a version that focused on a classic and comfortable appearance within the model range. The CLK-Class was intended to be the successor to the E-Class Coupe (C124) and marked a new direction for the brand's mid-size coupes.

The 1997 Mercedes-Benz CLK 320 Elegance was produced at a time when Mercedes-Benz was strongly committed to expanding its coupe lineup. Built at the Bremen plant, the model was part of a broader strategy to offer sporty yet representative two-piece body variants. The first-generation CLK remained in production until the early 2000s and formed the basis for later developments within the CLK line.

With its introduction in 1997, the 1997 Mercedes-Benz CLK 320 Elegance marked the beginning of a new model series that would remain in production for several generations. The model combined the technical basis of the C-Class with the positioning and appearance of an upper segment coupe, making it a fixture in the Mercedes-Benz lineup of the period.
