Description

The 1998 Daimler V8 is a luxury version within the Jaguar X308 generation, introduced in 1997 as the successor to the X300 series. With the introduction of the V8 engine, this generation marked an important technical step for the brand, with the traditional six-cylinder giving way to a newly developed eight-cylinder. In doing so, Daimler acted as the most exclusive version within the range, positioned above the Jaguar variants and recognizable by specific design elements and a high level of finish.

The 1998 Daimler V8 was built at a time when Jaguar, under Ford ownership, was investing in modernization of technology and production methods. The X308 series distinguished itself by combining classic styling with modern powertrains. Characteristic features of the Daimler version include the distinctive grille with vertical bars and subtle model designations, which visually distinguish the model from the Jaguar XJ variants from the same build years.

Within the model line, the 1998 Daimler V8 occupied a special position due to its focus on comfort and representativeness. Daimler has a long history as a luxury brand within the Jaguar group, with the name being used since the 1960s for the most refined versions of the XJ range. This tradition was maintained in 1998 as well, with a version aimed at an audience that valued discretion and classic British luxury.

The 1998 Daimler V8 was produced in the United Kingdom and is part of a relatively short production series that ran until 2003, after which a completely new generation was introduced. As such, this model represents the final phase of the traditional Sir William Lyons-inspired XJ design, combined with the then-new V8 technology. This 1998 example is offered as a lot within this auction.
