Description

The 1968 Glas 1304 CL is a model of the German brand Hans Glas GmbH, which in the 1960s was known for its compact mid-size cars with its own technical signature. The Glas 1304 CL was introduced as a coupe variant within the 1304 series and was distinguished by its bodywork designed by Pietro Frua. This model appeared at a time when Glas was looking to expand its model range into a more refined segment.

The Glas 1304 CL was built in 1967 and 1968, shortly after BMW acquired the Glas brand. Production of the 1304 CL remained limited; about 389 examples were manufactured. This makes the Glas 1304 CL among the less common models of the postwar German automobile industry. Some examples were delivered in the transition period with reference to BMW-Glas, underscoring the historical context of this model.

Technically, the Glas 1304 CL was based on the 1304 sedan, using the chassis and four-cylinder inline engine from the existing series. Glas was known at this time for using overhead camshafts in compact engines, which was a modern construction principle within this class at the time. The combination of Italian-drawn bodywork with German engineering gave the Glas 1304 CL its own position within the range of European coupes of the 1960s.

The 1968 Glas 1304 CL thus represents a model from the final phase of the Glas brand, prior to its full integration into BMW. Due to its limited production numbers and short construction period, the Glas 1304 CL has a distinct place within the brand's model history.
