Description

The 1971 Fiat 130 Coupe was introduced as Fiat's top luxury model and occupied a special position within the range. Designed by Paolo Martin at Pininfarina, the model was distinguished by its clean, angular lines that were characteristic of the early 1970s. The 1971 Fiat 130 Coupe was based on the platform of the four-door 130 Berlina, but was given a body and positioning completely of its own within the segment of large gran turistas.

Under the hood, the 1971 Fiat 130 Coupe featured a six-cylinder in V-positioning, a configuration that was exceptional within Fiat's offerings at the time. The model featured independent suspension all round and disc brakes, which in this class was in line with the technical standards of the period. The combination of Italian design and comfortably tuned technology made the 130 Coupe a representative appearance within the higher market segment in which other European manufacturers were also active.

The production of the Fiat 130 Coupe ran from 1971 to 1977 and was limited to about 4,300 units, making the model relatively rare within the total Fiat range. The car was delivered primarily to the European market and was aimed at buyers seeking a spacious, luxurious coupe with a distinct design. Due to its positioning and pricing, production numbers remained limited compared to the brand's more common models.

This 1971 Fiat 130 Coupe is a specimen from the model's first year of production. Within Fiat's history, the 130 Coupe occupies its own place as a flagship from a period when the brand was expanding its model range into the higher segment.
