Description

The Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC is part of the C107 series, the closed coupe variant of the R107 SL, introduced in 1972. Whereas the SL was positioned as a roadster, the SLC offered a fixed roof design and a longer wheelbase, creating additional interior space. The Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC came with a V8 engine and combined the character of a gran turismo with the build quality and engineering that were hallmarks of Mercedes-Benz in the 1970s.

Within the model range, the Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC occupied a prominent place as a V8 version. The C107 series was distinguished by its longer body compared to the SL, with a subtly extended roof and distinctive slats in the rear side windows. The design was in keeping with Mercedes-Benz's design language of the period, with an emphasis on safety, structural solidity and a presentable appearance. Its engineering was largely akin to that of the R107, which ensured its wide applicability and international popularity.

The Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC was delivered worldwide and had different versions depending on market and regulations. In motorsport, the SLC series was used in rally competitions, with specially developed variants achieving successes in long-distance rallies. This underscored the platform's versatility. The combination of V8 powertrain and coupe body made the 450 SLC a fixture within Mercedes-Benz's upper segment in the 1970s.

As part of the C107 series, the Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC represents a period when Mercedes-Benz was strongly committed to comfort, safety and durable construction. The model was produced over several years and occupied a position within the brand's offerings between sporty elegance and business use.
