Description

The Lotus Elise Mk-1 2000 belongs to the first generation of the Elise, introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1996. This model marked an important phase in Lotus history, focusing on the original design principle of lightweight construction. The name "Elise" was taken from Elisa Artioli, granddaughter of the then owner of Lotus. Production of the first generation ran until 2000 and remained relatively limited, with about 8,000 produced worldwide.

Characteristic of the Lotus Elise Mk-1 2000 is the glued and riveted aluminum chassis, a construction method that was progressive in series production at the time. This lightweight base was combined with a body made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic. Drawn by Julian Thomson, the design was characterized by compact proportions and a functional approach to styling, with low weight and direct driving characteristics central to the model's development.

The 2000 Lotus Elise Mk-1 came with a transverse mid-engine configuration, which contributed to balanced weight distribution. The first generation used engines from the Rover K series. The combination of low vehicle weight and a simple, purposeful technical design made the Elise a distinctive presence within the compact sports car segment at the end of the 1990s.

Because of its construction and production numbers, the Lotus Elise Mk-1 2000 has gained a permanent position within the marque's model range. This example from build year 2000 is a version from the last production year of the first generation, prior to the introduction of the updated S2 series.
