Description

The 1960 Jaguar XK150 belongs to the final development phase of the XK series that began in 1948 with the XK120. The XK150 was introduced in 1957 as the successor to the XK140 and remained in production until 1961. With this model, Jaguar continued the evolution of its sports cars, modernizing the design and adapting it to the demands of the market in the late 1950s. A total of about 9,400 examples of the Jaguar XK150 were produced.

As compared to its predecessor, the Jaguar XK150 received a wider body with higher doors and a larger glass section. A characteristic feature is the windshield consisting of ééone piece, which in earlier XK models was still in two parts. The grille was widened and the bumpers were redesigned, giving the model a recognizable place within the XK range. The XK150 was available as a Fixed Head Coupé, Drophead Coupé and Open Two Seater.

Technically, the Jaguar XK150 remained true to the six-in-line XK engine that Jaguar had been using since the late 1940s. Several engine variants were offered during the production period, including versions with larger displacement. In addition, the XK150 was the first XK model to use disc brakes all round as standard, a development that Jaguar had previously used successfully in motorsport, including at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The 1960 model year places this Jaguar XK150 in the model's later years of production, a period in which the technical further development of the XK series had reached its most sophisticated stage before the XK line was succeeded by the Jaguar E-Type. The Jaguar XK150 thus occupies a distinct position within the marque's model history, as the final piece of a series of sports cars that defined Jaguar's international reputation in the 1950s.
