Description

The 1995 Jaguar XJ6 4.0 belongs to the X300 generation of the Jaguar XJ series, which was produced from 1994 to 1997. With this generation, Jaguar returned to a more classic design, inspired by earlier XJ models, combined with modern production techniques under the ownership of Ford at the time. The Jaguar XJ6 4.0 occupied an important position within the model range as a six-cylinder version and was known for its combination of traditional British luxury and contemporary engineering.

The Jaguar XJ6 4.0 was equipped with a 4.0-liter six-in-line gasoline engine from the AJ16 engine family. This powerplant was a further development of the earlier AJ6 engine and was used in the X300 series with several technical refinements, including an improved engine management system. The six-cylinder engine configuration was characteristic of the XJ6 and was positioned alongside the twelve-cylinder XJ12 within the same model range.

The design of the 1995 Jaguar XJ6 4.0 was characterized by its recognizable long hood, twin round headlights and an understated, stately body shape. The interior design adhered to traditional Jaguar style with an emphasis on comfort and classic styling, fitting within the segment of luxury sedans in which the XJ6 operated. The X300 generation was known for improved build quality over its predecessor, contributing to its reputation in the 1990s.

The Jaguar XJ6 4.0 was produced at the Browns Lane plant in Coventry, a location historically closely associated with the Jaguar brand. Within the development of the XJ range, the X300 series forms an important link between the earlier, more angular XJ40 generation and the later, more rounded X308 models. This gives the 1995 Jaguar XJ6 4.0 a clear place within the evolution of Jaguar's flagship sedans.
