The 2009 Alpina B3 Touring is a variant produced by Alpina in Buchloe based on the BMW 3-series Touring of the E9x generation. Alpina has worked closely with BMW since the 1960s and is registered as an independent automobile manufacturer. The B3 models are a fixture within the range, combining performance and everyday convenience in an estate car configuration. The Alpina B3 Touring is distinguished from the regular BMW 3-Series Touring by specific modifications to the engine, chassis and trim, entirely in accordance with the brand's own development philosophy.
The generation to which this 2009 Alpina B3 Touring belongs is based on the BMW E91 Touring. Alpina provided this model with a further developed six-in-line gasoline engine with modified internal components and engine management. Also characteristic of Alpina are specific aerodynamic elements, proprietary alloy wheels in multi-spoke design and subtle body accents that visually distinguish the model without abandoning BMW's original lines. Alpina models are produced in relatively limited numbers compared to the standard BMW 3 Series, which contributes to the Alpina B3 Touring's exclusive character.
In the interior, the Alpina B3 Touring generally follows BMW's basic design, supplemented by brand-specific details such as specific upholstery, a numbered production badge and custom instrumentation. Alpina is known for high-quality workmanship and a combination of comfort and sporty tuning. In addition, the Touring version offers the practical features of an estate car, with ample luggage space and a fold-down rear seat, in keeping with the concept of a versatile performance car.
The 2009 Alpina B3 Touring occupies a place within Alpina's history as a representative of the E9x generation, a period when turbo technology was given a more prominent role within the model range. As such, this version is in line with BMW's broader technical development during those years, where efficiency and performance went hand in hand. The Alpina B3 Touring thus remains a distinctive appearance within the segment of sporty mid-range estate cars.
