Description

The 1989 Jaguar XJS 5.3 V12 Convertible is an open version of the XJS series, introduced in 1975 as the successor to the Jaguar E-Type. With this model, Jaguar positioned itself in the higher segment of comfortable gran turismo cars. The XJS remained in production until 1996 and saw several technical and stylistic advancements during its long run, with the V12 versions occupying an important place within the range.

The 5.3-liter V12 engine was a signature power source within the Jaguar program during this period. Jaguar applied this twelve-cylinder in several models since the early 1970s. In the Jaguar XJS 5.3 V12 Convertible, this engine was combined with the comfortable chassis concept the model was known for, aimed at long-distance use. The Convertible variant was delivered from the mid-1980s, after earlier open versions were created in collaboration with outside bodybuilders.

The design of the Jaguar XJS 5.3 V12 Convertible differs markedly from its predecessor, including the distinctive rear pillars that were prominent in the coupe. In the Convertible, these styles are dropped in favor of a completely open body. Over the years, the XJS received various updates to the chassis and technology, among other things, which enabled the model to adapt to changing market requirements and regulations.

This example is a 1989 Jaguar XJS 5.3 V12 Convertible. The roof control does not currently work. Other specifications and execution are based on the version as supplied by the manufacturer in that model year.
