Description

The Rolls Royce Silver Shadow Coupe is the two-door version of the Silver Shadow, the model with which Rolls-Royce took a new technical direction in 1965. The Silver Shadow was the brand's first model with a self-supporting body instead of a traditional chassis, which contributed to a stiffer construction and a more efficient use of space. With the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow Coupe, this technical basis was combined with a more exclusive body shape.

The body of the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow Coupe was built by Mulliner Park Ward, the coachbuilder responsible for the two-door versions of this model. Compared to the four-door Silver Shadow, the coupe was produced in considerably smaller numbers, which set it apart within the model range. Its design is characterized by longer doors, a lower roofline and a more emphatic emphasis on the lines along the flanks.

Technically, the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow Coupe shared its foundation with the regular Silver Shadow. The model featured independent suspension all around and disc brakes on all wheels, combined with an automatic transmission. This combination of modern engineering and traditional workmanship was typical of Rolls-Royce in this period and marked a transition to more contemporary construction methods within the brand.

Within the history of Rolls-Royce, the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow Coupe occupies a clear place as a bridge between the classic chassis-built models and the later generations with further developed self-supporting structures. The cooperation with Mulliner Park Ward and the relatively limited production compared to the four-door version make this version recognizable within the offer of the brand from this period.
