Description

The Volvo PV 544 is a model produced by Volvo from 1958 to 1965 that built on the previously introduced PV 444. The design with its rounded body shapes originated in the 1940s, but the Volvo PV 544 was technically further developed to meet the requirements of its time. The 1965 model was among the last production years of the PV series, closing an important period in Volvo's history.

During its production period, the Volvo PV 544 stood out for its solid construction and safety-oriented approach, features that contributed to the brand's reputation. Compared to the PV 444, the PV 544 received a larger windshield, a modified dashboard and improved safety features such as a seat belt assembly that was progressive at the time. The self-supporting body and robust engineering made the model suitable for a variety of markets, including Europe and North America.

The Volvo PV 544 additionally gained fame in motorsports, especially in rally races in the 1960s. The combination of relatively low weight and reliable engineering contributed to competitive performance in international events. This sporting effort strengthened the image of the PV series and played a role in Volvo's international positioning as a manufacturer of solid and safe vehicles.

In 1965, production of the Volvo PV 544 ended and the model gave way to more modern types within the Volvo program, such as the Amazon series. The year 1965 thus marks the end of a model series that totaled more than 440,000 units. The 1965 Volvo PV 544 represents the last evolution of this long-running model within the brand's classic PV line.
