The 1979 Volkswagen Beetle is among the final production years of a model that had been in production since 1938 and became one of the most widely built passenger cars worldwide. Developed with the goal of providing affordable mobility, the Volkswagen Beetle grew to be an international success. A total of more than 21 million were produced, giving the Beetle the production record for a single model for a long time.
In Europe, production of the Volkswagen Beetle ended in the late 1970s; German production ceased in 1978, after which construction continued in Mexico, among other places. A 1979 Volkswagen Beetle thus dates from the later production phase, in which the original concept was largely retained technically. Characteristic features of the model are the air-cooled boxer engine at the rear and the self-supporting body, features that formed the starting point for decades.
Over the years, the Volkswagen Beetle was further developed at the detail level, while retaining its recognizable silhouette with round fenders and freestanding headlights. The model acquired a wide user base worldwide and was delivered in a variety of markets. Its simple construction and characteristic design contributed to its long production life.
This 1979 Volkswagen Beetle thus represents a version from the final phase of a long production period. For those interested, this model offers insight into the technical and historical development of the Beetle in the 1970s. To get a good picture of the lot, we advise you to come to the viewing day.
