Description

The 1966 Jaguar 3.8 S was part of the S-Type series produced by Jaguar from 1963 to 1968. Positioned between the Jaguar Mark 2 and the larger 420, this model combined the Mark 2's familiar design with a technically modified rear end and independent rear suspension. The Jaguar 3.8 S was distinguished within the range by its 3.8-liter inline six-cylinder engine, which was used in several Jaguar models of the period.

The development of the Jaguar 3.8 S was aimed at improving ride comfort and handling compared to the Mark 2. This included independent rear suspension with separate wishbones and coil springs, a construction previously introduced by Jaguar on the E-Type and larger sedans. This technical concept contributed to the distinctive character of the S-Type within the range of midsize luxury sedans in the 1960s.

In terms of design, the Jaguar 3.8 S retained Jaguar's recognizable classic lines of the period, with a separate grille and double round headlights at the front. The rear end was extended compared to the Mark 2, resulting in a larger luggage space and more balanced proportion. The interior was characterized at the time by traditional materials and an uncluttered layout, befitting Jaguar's positioning in the higher end.

About 24,000 of the entire S-Type range were produced between 1963 and 1968, making the Jaguar 3.8 S a relatively limited produced model within the overall Jaguar lineup of the 1960s. The 1966 Jaguar 3.8 S thus represents a version from the later production years of this type. To get a good idea of the lot, we advise you to come to the viewing day.
