The 1995 Daimler Double Six is among the top luxury models produced by Daimler in partnership with Jaguar. The name Double Six was originally introduced in the 1970s for the twelve-cylinder versions of the Jaguar XJ series sold under the Daimler label. In 1995, the Daimler Double Six was based on the X300 generation of the Jaguar XJ, a model series known for its combination of classic styling and modern technology within the segment of large luxury sedans.
A distinctive feature of the Daimler Double Six was the use of the V12 engine, which distinguished the model from other versions within the XJ series. The twelve-cylinder was Jaguar's top engine offering during this period and was produced in relatively limited numbers compared to the six-cylinder versions. The Daimler variant was also distinguished by a specific grille, different badge design and traditionally luxurious positioning within the model range.
In the 1990s, Jaguar was in a phase of technical and qualitative modernization under Ford ownership. The 1995 Daimler Double Six benefited from this further development, paying attention to chassis and powertrain refinement within the existing concept of a rear-wheel-drive limousine. The model remained true to its classic design with round headlights and a formal roofline, elements that were typical of the XJ series of the period.
The Daimler Double Six occupied an exclusive position within the range as a top-of-the-line twelve-cylinder model, marking the end of an era when large V12 engines were still available in British luxury sedans. This 1995 example represents those final production years of the Double Six within the X300 generation. To get a good idea of the lot, we recommend coming to the viewing day.
