Description

The 1971 Mercedes-Benz 350 SL belongs to the early production years of the R107 series, introduced in 1971 as the successor to the W113 "Pagode." At its introduction, the Mercedes-Benz 350 SL was positioned as a luxury roadster within the upper segment and came with a V8 engine, which set the model apart within the SL range at the time. The R107 series had a long production run until 1989 and became one of Mercedes-Benz's most produced SL generations.

This example of the Mercedes-Benz 350 SL was delivered new in Switzerland. Via a piano teacher in Friesland, the car eventually ended up at De Vries Trucks in Beetgum, where the current owner acquired the car.  The chain tensioners had already been replaced and the car was equipped with a gas system. Several invoices are present, as well as several booklets.

In 2020, the Mercedes-Benz 350 SL was completely disassembled, painted and rebuilt in-house by the current owner. In the process, the paint was renewed due to cracking and wear. The interior has been addressed with a new carpetset and seats that have new padding and leather. The soft top has also been renewed. This work is part of a cosmetic restoration where the car was rebuilt.

On the technical side, the suspension rubbers on both the front and rear were replaced. At the rear, heavier springs have been installed to prevent the car from tilting backwards when the gas tank is full. The valves were adjusted and the oil lines above the camshafts were replaced. In addition, the ignition was checked and fitted with an electronic ignition with new coil, ignition module, distributor, spark plugs and cables from Sparcon. When the engine is cold, the car idles with increased engine speed. The Mercedes-Benz 350 SL offers a comfortable and reliable driving experience.
