Introduced in 1976 as an entry-level model within the Porsche program, the Porsche 924 marked a new phase for the brand with a front-mounted four-cylinder engine and transaxle design. This setup, with the gearbox at the rear, provided favorable weight distribution. The Porsche 924 was produced until 1988 and formed the basis for later models such as the 944. The design is characterized by the sleek lines of the 1970s and the distinctive folding headlights.
The example offered here is a 1981 Porsche 924. The car was delivered new in Germany in 1980 and came to the Netherlands in 1985. Thus, this Porsche 924 has a European history from first registration. Over the years, the model has developed into a recognizable appearance within the segment of compact sports cars with Porsche signature.
In 2025 the Porsche 924 was restarted after a period of storage. As part of that, the timing belt was replaced as well as the water pump. The fuel system was also taken care of. The fuel pump, filter and accumulator were replaced, as well as the injectors and the so-called spider head of the injection system. This work was carried out to make the fuel system ready for operation again.
The Porsche 924 has a valid MOT inspection until 17-09-2027. The model is known for its transaxle chassis and its position as the first mass-produced Porsche with this configuration. Within the history of the brand, the Porsche 924 thus occupies its own place as a model that combined technology and conceptual design in a widely deployable sports car.
