Description

The Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda came in 1968 as part of the W113 series, introduced in 1963 as the successor to the 190 SL and the 300 SL. With this model, Mercedes-Benz marketed a convertible that combined sportiness and comfort with a strong emphasis on safety. The design is characterized by the distinctive, slightly concave hardtop roof that contributed to additional structural safety in the event of a rollover. Its resemblance to an oriental temple earned the model the nickname "Pagoda," a designation that has been inextricably linked to the Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda ever since.

Within the W113 series, the Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda represents the latest and most powerful evolution. The model distinguished itself through advanced technology and refinement compared to its predecessors. Safety was central to the design, without compromising on design and elegance. The result was a sleek and balanced lined design that to this day is recognizable within the history of the brand.

The 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda offered here was originally delivered in Europe and finished in Signal Red with a black leather interior. The car features a four-speed manual transmission, a version that came with approximately 10% of the total W113 production. In addition, this example features a hardtop, air conditioning and an optional third seat in the rear, a rare configuration chosen within this model.

Of this Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda, several invoices are present. The paintwork shows several imperfections. The combination of the manual transmission, the original European delivery and the specific equipment underline the special positioning of this example within the W113 series.
