The Donkervoort S8AT Cosworth is a lightweight sports car of Dutch origin, developed according to the principle of minimal mass and direct driving experience. Donkervoort Automobiles, founded in 1978 by Joop Donkervoort, built handmade cars on a small scale during this period. The S8AT combined two important technical steps: the chassis of the race-winning D10 and a turbo engine based on Ford technology, which Donkervoort further developed internally. This involved a combination of the Ford 2.0-liter EFI and the well-known Ford Sierra Cosworth engines, tuned for use in a lightweight sports car.
The Donkervoort S8AT Cosworth was produced in limited numbers, with a total of, it seems, about 41 examples of the S8AT series. Each vehicle was built largely by hand, resulting in variations between them. The model managed to distinguish itself by its performance; the first prototype achieved a victory at the English Car Rally on the Valkenswaard circuit. In the following years, the S8AT remained active in club races. At the time, the combination of low weight and turbo technology resulted in an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in about 5.0 seconds and a top speed of about 220 km/h, figures that were only achieved by a limited number of cars in the early nineties.
This example of the Donkervoort S8AT Cosworth is in driving condition. There are several maintenance bills present that provide insight into the maintenance performed. The hood cannot currently be locked as there are still some latches to be fitted. To get a good idea of the lot we advise you to come to the viewing day.
