The 1961 Alfa Romeo 2000 Touring Spider was among the more luxurious models in Alfa Romeo's range and was designed by Carrozzeria Touring in Milan. The open two-seater succeeded the 1900 series and combined classic Italian lines with refined engineering. Under the hood was a 1975 cc four-cylinder engine with double camshaft, mated to a five-speed manual transmission — a configuration rarely offered in this segment at the time. The engine produced about 115 horsepower, which enabled the Spider to travel long distances effortlessly with a relatively high level of comfort.
The bodywork was built on the Superleggera principle: a lightweight tubular frame clad in aluminum panels. Production of the 2000 Spider was limited to just over 3,400 between 1958 and 1962, making it attractive to collectors in later years. The independent front suspension, drum brakes all around and the use of high-quality materials reflected Alfa Romeo's ambitions at the higher end of the market. To get a good idea of the lot, we recommend coming to the viewing day.
