The 1957 Borgward Isabella Coupé is an elegant representative of German automotive history. Borgward, founded in 1929 by Carl F. W. Borgward, was known for its innovative designs and attention to detail. The Isabella, introduced in 1954, was one of the brand's most successful models. With its flowing lines and striking two-tone paint options, the Coupé quickly became a beloved model among car enthusiasts who wanted to combine style with German precision.
The Isabella Coupé was powered by a 1,493 cc overhead camshaft four-cylinder engine, a technology that was progressive at the time. The engine produced about 75 horsepower, which provided a top speed of 150 mph, impressive for a car in its class. The interior of the Coupé offered a refined finish with high-quality materials, such as chrome details and a stylish layout of the dashboard. This made the car not only technically interesting, but also a pleasure to drive.
The Borgward Isabella was known for its reliability and smooth handling, thanks in part to its innovative independent suspension. Yet Borgward had a troubled history as a manufacturer. Despite the success of models such as the Isabella, the company went bankrupt in 1961, giving the cars an extra nostalgic value for collectors.
Today, the Isabella Coupé is appreciated for its rarity and timeless design. The model has won a permanent place in the hearts of classic German car enthusiasts. Its combination of elegance and technical progressiveness makes it an attractive choice for those looking for a car with a story.
