The 1968 Mercedes-Benz 200D is an icon of German solidity and reliability, a model introduced at a time when Mercedes was establishing its name as a manufacturer of robust, high-quality cars. The "Heckflosse" generation, also known as the W110, was known for its distinctive tail fins, a design feature that gave this generation a special look and made it instantly recognizable.
This particular example was originally delivered new in the Netherlands and comes from a private collection, which means that the vehicle has been carefully kept and maintained. The car is exempt from road tax and MOT requirements, which makes maintenance easier for the new owner. The character of the 200D is mainly reflected in its simple but robust diesel engine, which was known for its reliability and economic driving characteristics. This 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine was affectionately called the "indestructible" because it could run trouble-free for years with minimal maintenance. It was an engine designed to cover long distances with ease and no fuss, something that made this Mercedes a popular choice in its day.
What makes this 200D extra special is the extensive documentation that comes with the car. This documentation offers insight into the history of the vehicle, which for a classic car like this is an important asset. The preservation of these documents shows that the car has always been treated with care and adds to the authenticity of this example. The understated look of the car, with its classic lines and functional interior, gives a nice picture of the design philosophy of Mercedes-Benz in the 1960s: no superfluous luxury, but everything necessary to ensure a comfortable and reliable ride.
In order to get a good impression of the car, we recommend coming to one of the viewing days.
