The Lotus Elan 1600 Type 26 embodies the dynamic design for which Lotus is known. The lightweight chassis and bodywork of this first-generation Elan contribute to an athletic yet elegant appearance. The Elan was one of the first production cars with a monocoque chassis, contributing to its light weight and agile characteristics. The 1558 cc Lotus TwinCam engine was based on a Ford Kent Pre-Crossflow four-cylinder. Ford parts were also used as the basis for the gearbox and differential. The whole thing produced 109 horsepower. This, combined with the low weight of only 680 kg, made for a car that was successful within motorsport. The Lotus offered here is in running condition. Recently the car has undergone restoration work: the bodywork, engine and gearbox, among other things, have been done. To get a good picture of the lot we advise you to come to the viewing day.
