Description

To commemorate Ford Motor Company's 75th anniversary in 1978, Ford released Diamond Jubilee Editions of the 1978 Thunderbird and Continental Mark V. With an additional price of $8,000 over a Mark V, the Continental Mark V Diamond Jubilee was the most expensive vehicle sold by Ford at the time, with $21,000 in 1978 roughly equivalent to $98,888 in 2023. Only four options were available: the rare 460ci (7.5L) V8 with or without dual exhaust, a power sunroof and a 40-channel CB radio. The exterior was given an almost monochromatic look, with color-matched body moldings, vinyl roof, wheels, grille, hood ornament and trunk lid. Two colors were available that were exclusive to the edition: Diamond Blue and Jubilee Gold. Chrome trim was extended to the window and grille surrounds, bumpers and wheel arch trim. Along with the Lincoln Versailles, the Diamond Jubilee Edition was one of the first Fords to use clearcoat. The interior received its own model-specific upholstery. The split front bench was replaced with cloth seats and with a center console with an upholstered armrest. The opera windows were fitted with incised inscription and the hood ornament was embellished with inserts of crystal glass. The clocks were fitted with Cartier logo. All Diamond Jubilee Editions came with a leather-bound owner's manual and tool kit. Each new owner could even request a Ford-assembled cookbook titled "Ford Diamond Jubilee Recipe Collection." A total of 5,159 Diamond Jubilee Edition Continental Mark Vs were produced. This example is in good condition. The luxurious interior is well preserved. The blue vinyl roof is slightly discolored. The engine appears to have been recently overhauled. The Lincoln comes complete with the dealer's color swatch folder, booklets and two keys. To get a good idea of the lot we recommend coming to the viewing day.
