The Studebaker Avanti R2 Supercharged with 4-speed Manual was a special edition of the Studebaker Avanti, a sports Coupé introduced in 1962. The R2 Supercharged with 4-speed Manual was a performance-oriented version of the Avanti, equipped with a more powerful engine, a Paxton supercharger and a 4-speed manual transmission to improve performance and driving experience. The R2 Supercharged was equipped with a 289 cubic inch V8 engine that produced 290 horsepower and 335 pound-feet of torque as standard. With the Paxton supercharger, however, the engine was able to produce more than 300 hp and deliver better performance than the standard R2. The 4-speed manual transmission provided a sporty and precise driving experience, giving the driver full control over the powerful engine. Other features included disc brakes on all four wheels, an improved chassis and a sporty appearance with unique R2 characteristics. The interior was equipped with luxurious upholstery and a sporty steering wheel. This model broke many records in the past. The Studebaker Avanti R2 Supercharged with 4-speed manual transmission was a rare car. Only a small number of these special versions were produced between 1963 and 1964, when production of the Avanti was discontinued. Estimates of the production numbers vary, but in all likelihood there are only about 500 of this version produced. The cars on offer are part of a static collection that has been accumulated over the last 40 years. They are mainly in an unrestored, original but dusty condition. We have not tried to start any of the cars. We have been informed that the engines have been turned, on a regular basis, but the exact condition of the cars and the engines is unknown to us. You can inspect the cars on the viewing days for which you have to make a reservation through our ticketshop.
