This beautiful 1953 BMW R51/3, with matching engine and frame numbers, is an original Dutch delivery. The motorcycle was fully restored around 2000 by BMW motorcycle specialist Oldlima in Belgium and has been in excellent condition ever since. The accompanying 1955 document confirms the Dutch provenance and underlines the long and well-documented history of this BMW.
Development and Technical Progress
The BMW R51/3 marks an important step in the evolution of BMW's iconic two-cylinder. Introduced in 1951 as the successor to the R51/2, the R51/3 brought with it a completely new engine design. Thanks to a single gear-driven camshaft and a crankshaft-mounted alternator, the model improved significantly in terms of reliability and power. This elegant, updated design and improved performance quickly endeared the R51/3 to motorcycle enthusiasts.
Excellent Condition and Documentation
With a complete restoration by an authorized BMW specialist, this R51/3 is in almost museum-worthy condition. The original Dutch registration certificates are still present, as well as the Belgian registration application, making this motorcycle not only a mechanical gem, but also a historically valuable collector's motorcycle.
Classical BMW Appearance and Unadulterated Charm
A ride on the R51/3 is a time travel to the 1950s: the smooth-running twin cylinder, the distinctive plunging exhaust sound and the iconic BMW design immediately attract attention. This R51/3 not only exudes timeless elegance, but also offers the distinctive riding experience for which BMW motorcycles of the period are known.
