Take a Ride in a 1941 Chrysler Town & Country Estate Wagon
Take a Ride in a 1941 Chrysler Town & Country Estate Wagon
How often have you seen a classic car and wished you could be a passenger? In my case too many times and yet the fantasy was only answered twice; the first in a Model A pickup (where I also got to drive when the owner's prosthetic-equipped leg tired) and the second in a 1913 steamer. If you have a yearning to relive your younger years or, conversely, experience something you're too young to have known, here's your chance to do it by osmosis. Thanks to a link from Keith Martin's Sports Car Market magazine you can connect to a video where the reporter becomes a passenger in a 1941 Chrysler Town & Country Barrel Back Estate Wagon. The commentary on Chrysler's semi-automatic transmission is especially fascinating.

Classy Palm Springs Setting for a Classic Packard
The inaugural Palm Springs Desert Classic Concours got under way Friday and our intrepid photographer Mel Satok was on hand to photograph the cars. I was delighted when I saw this shot of a 1930's Packard parked in front of the Palm Springs Art Museum, which seemed appropriate as the car is art and the building is great architecture. On my one-and-only visit to the area a few years ago a rainy day sent me scurrying into the building were I was amazed at the variety and quality of the art. In fact, I surreptitiously latched on to a group of visitors being led by a female docent who just happened to be elegant and beautiful and very, very classy. Just like that Packard outside.

Beautiful Car Art, Mysterious Digs
Ex-wives and girlfriends may disagree but I think of myself as a romantic with a taste for transportation art. Obviously paintings that combine beautiful cars (or trains, ships, aircraft) with romantic backgrounds have a special appeal. Thus I'm attracted to the artworks available from CAR ART, Inc. These folks represent some of the international greats in the automotive fine art field, including names like Ken Dallison, Jay Koka (both fellow Canadians), Yohe, Motta, and… well, the list goes on. If you find this painting of a 1950's moment appealing, as I did, click onto the CAR ART site but beware… it's an archeological dig to find your way around. Why is it that Web sites with the finest products often have the poorest graphic designs?
